About the Sheldon Hotel Eastbourne

The Sheldon is now in new ownership, with four friends coming together to own this lovely 1880s hotel. Mike and Donna Burley come from Orange County, California, and have known Harry and Pam Pope for many years. They decided to go into business together, combining their many years of service to the public so they now have a hotel that has traditional values while combining as many modern facilities as possible.

If you stay at The Sheldon and hear an American accent, then you can nudge each other and say perhaps they are one of the owners. Harry and Pam are not so easy to identify, but they do wear name badges so these should be a clue. Mike and Dona come over as often as possible, and Harry and Pam live in Eastbourne so are at The Sheldon a lot of the time. Karen is our General Manager, and has many responsibilities, including keeping the staff in order, going shopping with Pam, and laughing at Harry’s jokes.

We have a kitchen that serves traditional English food, with a chef’s special every day, and alternatives that include a daily fresh fish dish, gammon steak, salad, and omelette. We have a lot of menus for those who require special diets, as Karen is a non-meat/fish/dairy eater, and has a lot of specialist insight in this area.

The Sheldon has a lovely team who enjoy sharing their adaptable duties. We have a training programme so our staff can develop their skills of the many facets of hotel management.
